John M. Silvis, CFA

Director, Chief Investment Officer

John Silvis, a CFA charter holder, serves as Fairport’s chief investment officer. He oversees the research of the investment team, determines the asset allocation of Fairport’s model portfolios, and directs investment decisions and implementation. John provides clients, prospects and internal staff with guidance about Fairport’s investment philosophy, process and performance. He is also responsible for regularly updating the team on current market and economic conditions.

John brings over 20 years of experience to the investment team and has been with Fairport since 2000. John began his career at Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and prior to joining Fairport, he was a portfolio manager at National City Bank. John obtained a bachelor’s degree in economics from Penn State University and his MBA from Baldwin Wallace University.

He is a current member in good standing of the CFA Institute and a longtime member of the CFA Society Cleveland. John recently completed a term as president at the CFA Society, having served in the past as vice president, treasurer and chair of the Investment Committee. John serves on the Investment Committee for the Benjamin Rose Institute where he has participated as a member since 2013, along with serving on the investment committee of the Kelvin and Eleanor Smith Foundation. Additionally, John is a member of the Investment Advisory Committee of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and the Professional Advisors Committee of the Catholic Community Foundation.

John lives in Strongsville, Ohio, with his wife, Lori, and his three children. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, traveling and is an avid Penn State fan.
