Get Inspired by Your Vision
Children aren’t afraid to dream big or announce their aspirations to the world. They just put it out there with declarations such as, “I want to be a firefighter!” or “When I grow up, I’m going to be a veterinarian.” Declare what you want to be when you grow up by creating a vision board.
A vision board represents your desires and aspirations.
It can motivate you by reminding you of the things you want to achieve.
How to create a motivational vision board:
1. Think about and prioritize your goals.
Consider where you’d like to be in 5-years, 10-years and the very long-term in terms of your career, relationships and wealth.
2. Represent your goals with images.
Use magazine cut-outs, photos or words to specify the future you hope to realize.
3. Create a plan of action.
Some people believe the power of a vision board is putting your wishes out into the universe. While positive energy may help, it’s a good idea to brainstorm strategies for achieving each of your goals. For example, if you want to put your child through college, open and fund a 529 plan with regular and automatic payments. If you’re interested in changing careers, sign up for an educational course that will supplement missing skills or join organizations that will help you with networking.
4. Keep your vision handy.
It’s easy to get caught up in everyday happenings. Regularly looking at your vision board will remind and motivate you to take steps to implement your plan.
5. Congratulate yourself for making changes.
There may be many steps and many years before your vision board goals are realized. It can help to acknowledge small successes and progress that brings you closer every day.
