When was your last mammogram?

You may have noticed people wearing pink ribbons around town these past few weeks. This is because October is breast cancer awareness month. At Luma Wealth, we’d like to do our part by raising awareness of National Mammography Day, which is today, and the importance of early detection.

Early detection saves lives.
National Mammography Day serves as a reminder that early detection is the best defense against breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, a woman’s risk of dying from breast cancer fell 39% since 1989 ─ a result of both early detection and improved treatment.

Reducing your risk factors may help.
Studies have shown a link between certain factors and an increased risk of breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, the risk is higher from:

  • Smoking, especially long-term, heavy smoking
  • Consuming more than 2-3 alcoholic beverages per day
  • Obesity, especially in post-menopausal women
  • Inactivity (women who get regular physical activity can reduce their risk by 10-25%)

Your health is important to you and your family. Even if you don’t have the time or inclination to go to the gym, there are ways to increase your activity level. You can walk the dog, park in the farthest spot from the door, walk past the elevator and take the stairs.

How we all can help the cause.
Help identify better treatments and improve lives by participating in fundraising events or donating to a reputable research program. Luma Wealth can help you create a philanthropic strategy aligned with your objectives, including the fight against cancer.
